Delightful museum built around the former home of the late Affandi, one of Indonesia's best-known painters. Several galleries, including one with 30 of Affandi's paintings from his early, impressionist and expressionist periods, and another with paintings by some of his 11 children. The artist designed some of the buildings (the central complex was originally his home and offices) himself, and the grounds themselves are worth the admission price. RUMAH PALAGAN Boutique Hotel

The boss is an Indonesian aristocrat - proud - rightly - about the days when his people stood against the oppressor and fought for their freedom. Yes it is to be celebrated and this place is authentic about that.

How does it translate in terms of hospitality? clean and charming and fresh. Less cosy than mertua because the rooms come in a long stretch - still - once you are settled - you will find peace and rest and feel good about the place. The pool is nice but not ideal for kids (only a small basin for toddlers). Next to the entrance is a nice space for breakfast and dinner. We liked it - though I was initially disappointed because it did not have the "touch" of Mertua....Room was nice... I thought the photos were interesting on the walls... Was there Dec 2009

Amanjiwo, near Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist sanctuary, in the rural heartland of Central Java

Amanjiwo (peaceful soul) overlooks Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist sanctuary, in the rural heartland of Central Java. Located in one of the most scenic parts of the country, it rests within a natural amphitheatre; the Menoreh Hills rise up behind and no less than four volcanoes grace the horizon.

Went there with family in Dec 2009 after morning visit of Borobudur - had a nice lunch - including a simple and good bubur ayam - for a reasonable price taking into account the high end nature of this place. Worthwile. Nice gift shop too.

Completed in 2007, the Eastern Coastal Park Connector Network (PCN) is an interconnected cycling network with 6 stations or 'pitstops' that covers a total of 42 km. It looks like a place for tourists (which it is anyway) but the outdoors section is cool, with many stilt huts arranged around a few koi pounds. Each hut can "sit" 4 to 6 persons. Except that you won't be sitting on chairs but on the hut flooring (like a matt). Food was good even to the standard of my Indonesian family ;-)
